Remote Controlled dorm room
Independent Design Project
With two bunk beds in my room, sometimes it was hard to get up and down from our beds without stumbling while the lights were turned off. I decided to engineer a way to turn on and off the lights remotely. I was informed by the housing staff that I was not allowed to modify any of the existing electrical work in the building. Without modifying any of the electrical hardware, I used a servo, an Arduino, some music wire, and an old credit card to engineer a mechanism to physically switch the lights on and off when commanded by a remote controller. I used an RF remote to ensure a strong connection from the remote to the Arduino. Additionally, the RF signal is able to penetrate walls so I also programmed the remote to unlock my door.
